Socio-medical Investigation of Progessional Blood Donor in Seoul


Abstract
A socio-medical investigation was carried out for the purpose of clarifying the individual and social situation of the registered Doner (with allowance) which samples were 1,440 gathered in 9 Blood Bank localed at Seoul from 10th of June to 10th of July 1964. And it was summerized as fpllowing:
1. The mean age of man doner was 26.7 years old and woman 21.6 ranged 17 to 49 years of age but concentrated into 20 to 25.
2, The birth of place was 20.8% of Seoul city, 13.8% of Chun-nam, 11.8%-Of Chung-nam, 8.8% of Chun-buk and others and present address was neighbored to Blood banks. Dwelling was 32.0% of Rent, 20.6% of Own, 17.8% of Lodging and 13.2% of Dormitory, and 4.1% of men were unsettled.
3. Concerning their occupation it was divided into present and past on the point of the begining of donating; present occupation was 53.40/10 of non, 19.3% laboring, 6.9% of marchandise and others, and past occupation was 20.7% of schooling, 16.9% of marchandise and 5.1% of non, but in women 24.8% of schooling and 9.6% of house-keeping except non occupation.
4. Educational level was higher in men than women but the ignored 1.7% only and 98.3% of the educated.
5. Religion occupied 60.6% of non and 39.4% of religious.
6. Mean body-weight was 62.8kg and body-height 167.6cm.
7. Blood Type was 32.5% of A, 31.2% 0, 27.3% of B and 9.0% AB.
8. Past illness was 92.2% of non-experienced and 1.9% of Syphilis, 0.3% of Infections hepatitis, 4.3% of Malaria and 1.2% of Tuberculosis. And vaccination was 42.2% of Cholera, 6.8% of Typhoid and 1.3% of B.C.G.
9. 78.9% of doner was unmarried and 19.7% of married.
10. Use of income (through donating) was 53.3% of assistance of living cost, 15.0% of pocket money and 12.6% of travelling.
11. Mean family-size was 4.5 and dependents were 1.5. And dependents of non-occupation were 4.
12. Practice-years of donating were 4.2 months in which men 4.8 and women 0.5 months.
13. Practic-times of donating were 15, out of which men 16.4 and women 0.4 times.
14. No complain was 50.8% and general malaise 22.3% and night-sweat 6.9% after donating.
15. Monthly fluctuation showed more in summer and less in winter, however, number of doner had been increasing.
16. Weekly fluctuation showed 22.70., of Monday as most, 14.9% of Wednesday as list and 9.5/ of Saturday.
17. Desired times of donating were 1.7 and 25.6% of samples were contradicted to the donating with allowance.
18. Harmful influence of body, they were supposed, was 66.6% and useful influence 3.6% which indicated anemia, weight loss and so forth.
19. Hematopoiesis after donating was supported by 86.6% and unbelieved by 6.2%. And method of blood formation was 56.2% of food intake and 28.3% natural.
20. Fluid intake before donating was 29.4%, after donating 19.2/ and no intake was 2.4%.
21. Motivation of donating was 78.4% by recommendation of friend, 14.8% through newspaper and 3.600 of witness.
22. Use of allowance was rightly for 77.4% and not rightly 5.9%.
23. 64.9% of samples supported Depositing system, 29.0% did Charged donating and 3.8% did both.
24. Request for blood bank was 61.2% of more allowance, 24.9% of good accommodation and 7.9% of shortening of process.
25. Feeling after donating was 55.6% of uncomfortables, 24.4% of no sense and 2.5% of comfortables.
